1) Program: PMKVY (Pradhan Mantri Kushal Vikas Yojana)

PMKVY Kendra By Sewa

Sewa International in collaboration with Yuva Vikas Society has by far successfully set up Kendras at three places in Tripura namely Ashapura, Kaskaupura and Khakchangpura. With 2 batches of tailoring courses already passed out of Ashapura and Kaskaupara, we are striving to generate long-lasting modes of employment to be given to the tribal community for their inclusion in the mainstream.

One of the flagship schemes of the government of India, PMKVY aims to generate and provide employable skills to the youth. By way of providing quality training and giving monetary awards, it aims to improve the work efficiency of the working population and the future workforce. An award amount of Rs 8000 is given after a trainee successfully finishes the training. Launched in July 2015 under the Ministry Of Skill Development And Entrepreneurship, the scheme has a target to train 1 crore Indian youth from 2016-20. Sewa International has been proactively mediating the setting up of centres across the riot-ravaged Tripura for the Bru community.

The Brus - Support Initiative by Sewa

September 1997, a prolonged, brutal ethnic violence and an error on part of the census department of the government ripped off from an entire tribal population, their homeland, massacring its people and eventually losing its millennial old name. The Brus, now officially the Reangs as one of the 21 scheduled tribes of India. Natives of Tripura and majorly spread over the belts of Mizoram, Assam, and Manipur. It is presently in the districts of Mamit and Kolasib of Mizoram that these tribals have had to face the gravest forms of deprivation caused by ethnic riots between the Brus and the Mizos, the majority tribe.

It’s been over a year of Sewa’s active voluntarism and work, bringing light to those darkened by the vagaries of the riots. The initiatives have been designed and implemented in ways so as to establish a sustainable community ecosystem of well-empowered people. From generating employment through skill training to enabling the youth by means of computer literacy Sewa has been a forerunner in establishing not just a give and take ecosystem but to develop a human bond with the Brus.

2) Program: PMKVY (Pradhan Mantri Kushal Vikas Yojana) UTTRAKHAND

Keeping in resonance with the same philosophy, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) intends to establish visible and inspirational Model Training Centers (MTCs) in Uttarakhand, WB, and Telangana district of the country with NSDC being the implementation agency for the project. Sewa International has added a new feather in the cap by working with the Government to provide skills and employment to the calamity ravaged Uttarakhand. The aim is to build a self-sustained community and individual in the long run so as to reduce the dependence on aids and donations eventually.

Sewa International was selected by NSDC for allotting UK1 cluster in the Garhwal region, UK. In partnership with Foresight Edutech Pvt Ltd, Sewa is setting up 9 distinct of the art Model Skill Centers called Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra’s with the following aims:

To shift from a top-down consumption-based approach to a more self-driven and livelihood generating an institutional model.
PMKK’s to be developed as quality institutions taking care of aspirations of the trainees and competency-based skill development training.
Focus on not just a one-time course or training, but to create a connect with the community involved at large.

The centers across Uttarakhand have a cluster-based approach taking into view the demography of the adjacent regions.
